This Spooky Season embark on haunted explorations around the city and maybe you'll find spooky energy lingering around the corner. Grab your flashlights and summon your courage for these haunted spots!

Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater 🎥

In the 1980s, many Emerson University students reported ghostly experiences, including seeing the ghost of a former Boston Mayor still sitting in the seat he died in during a performance. Other visitors have told accounts of seeing the spirits of a couple and their young daughter floating about in the upper balcony.

Fort Warren 🏯

Confederate Soldiers and disloyal citizens were imprisoned in Fort Warren during the Civil War. Fort Warren’s most famous ghost is the Lady In Black, Mrs. Lanier, who has been sighted many times as she wanders about the grounds. Her tragic death came when she traveled from Georgia to free her husband who was imprisoned at the Fort. She got inside the prison and managed to reunite with her husband. During their escape attempt, they were discovered by a guard who killed her husband, and the Lady In Black was subsequently hung and buried on George’s Island.

The Omni Parker House Hotel 🏨

This hotel's elevator has been known to stop on the 3rd floor without anyone pushing the button. When the doors open, no one is there. On the 10th floor, the hotel owner, Harvey Parker, has been seen roaming the halls. Reports from guests describe Mr. Parker perfectly and include sightings of him inside rooms, in the hallways, and even sounds of someone rocking back and forth in a rocking chair (there are no rocking chairs in the hotel). Many visitors reported lights flickering on and off, hearing strange voices, and figures dressed in 19th-century attire.

The Pilot House 🧑‍✈️

Built in 1839 as an inn for pilots and captains of ships, the Pilot House is now home to several spirits including the Lady in White. This womanly figure is said to linger in the kitchen on the first floor and those who have seen her say she appears like a glowing figure, almost translucent. Other visitors have also heard the disembodied voices of men talking, clinking glasses, and laughing, and have observed doors slamming when no one was around.

@ 2 Atlantic Ave, Boston

Granary Park Burying Grounds 🪦

Founded in 1660, this is the 3rd oldest burying ground in Boston. It's the final resting place of Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Robert Treat Paine, and Paul Revere. Spooky and somber, the graveyard is a daunting sight with its winding narrow pathways, looming trees, and rigid iron gates. Many paranormal encounters have been reported here.

Meet The Peaceful Ghosts of Boston Athenaeum

Boston Athenaeum: Ghost of Dr. Harris & Book Made of Human Flesh 😵

👻 The Ghost of Dr. Harris - The Boston Athenaeum is famous not only for its extensive literary collection but also for its ghostly residents. In 1842, author Nathanael Hawthorne encountered the ghost of Dr. Thaddeus Mason Harris while reading in the library. Initially unaware that Harris had passed away, Hawthorne mistook the sighting for a living man. After several encounters with Dr. Harris reading peacefully, he learned of the reverend's death, yet the ghost continued to appear. Ultimately, Dr. Harris gave Hawthorne a sorrowful death stare before vanishing the following day.

📕 Human Skin Book - Adding to the library's eerie allure is the infamous skin-bound book created by James Allen, a convict who wished to immortalize his story in an unsettling way. Diagnosed with tuberculosis, Allen instructed that his memoir be bound in his own skin following his death. This memoir made of Allen's flesh is displayed on the 1st floor of the Athenaeum.

🪦 A Historical Site - The Boston Anthenaeum was founded in 1807 and is one of America’s oldest independent libraries. Now a National Historic Landmark, the Athenaeum's proximity to the Granary Park Burying Ground—a site known for its haunting tales—only enhances its reputation as a sanctuary where history and the supernatural intertwine.
