Summer Moving Advice from Apartment Experts
As apartment experts, we’ve seen our fair share of summer moves, and we’re here to share some tips to make the process as smooth as possible.
Summer is a popular time to move for many reasons: school is out, the weather is nice, and it’s easier to take time off work. However, moving during the summer months can also come with its own set of challenges. As apartment experts, we’ve seen our fair share of summer moves, and we’re here to share some tips to make the process as smooth as possible:
Book your moving company early
Moving companies can book up quickly during the summer months, so it’s important to book your company early. This will ensure that you can get the moving date and time that works best for you. If you’re moving on a weekend, be sure to book even earlier, as these dates tend to fill up fast.
Plan for the heat
Moving in the summer can be hot and exhausting, so be sure to plan accordingly. Consider packing a cooler with drinks and snacks to keep you and your movers hydrated and energized. Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and stay in the shade as much as possible. If you’re moving to a new city or state, research the local weather patterns and plan your move accordingly.
Declutter before you move
Moving is a great time to declutter and get rid of items you no longer need or want. Take the time to go through your belongings and donate or sell items that you don’t want to take with you. This will not only make packing and moving easier, but it will also make your new apartment feel more spacious and organized.
Pack smart
When packing, be sure to label your boxes with the contents and the room they belong in. This will make unpacking much easier and save you time and energy. Also, be sure to pack heavy items in smaller boxes and lighter items in larger boxes. This will prevent boxes from getting too heavy and make them easier to carry.
Take advantage of apartment amenities
Many apartments have amenities that can make moving easier, such as loading docks or elevators. Be sure to check with your apartment complex to see what resources are available to you. Also, consider renting a storage unit if you need extra space to store items during the moving process.
AVOID STORROW DRIVE
Moving trucks are not allowed on Storrow Drive in Boston due to the low clearance of many of the overpasses on the road. Storrow Drive is known for its scenic views of the Charles River and is a popular route for drivers. However, the road was not designed for large trucks, and many of the bridges have a clearance of only 10 feet, which is not high enough for most moving trucks. The low clearance has resulted in numerous accidents over the years, causing damage to both the trucks and the bridges. To prevent further accidents, signs are posted at the entrance of Storrow Drive warning drivers of the height restrictions, and police officers patrol the area to enforce the rule.
Moving during the summer months can be a stressful process, but with the right preparation and mindset, it can also be an exciting time. By booking your moving company early, planning for the heat, decluttering before you move, packing smart, and taking advantage of apartment amenities, you can make your summer move as smooth and stress-free as possible. Happy moving!
